Bearing deep disappointment, a group of farmers from Central Kalimantan arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, to demand justice from the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Indonesia. They feel ignored in their own region after their reports concerning alleged environmental crimes and land grabbing by palm oil companies have not been addressed by the Palangkaraya High Prosecutor’s Office.
“We’ve been shouting in Central Kalimantan, but our voices seem to vanish into thin air,” said Frenky, Secretary of the Tetesan Permata Farmers Group, with palpable anger. “Is the law only sharp in Jakarta, while in Central Kalimantan it’s blunt and favors those with capital?”
Five Months of Silence: Farmers Feel Betrayed
For five long months, their reports have languished without resolution. Submitted documents and collected evidence seem to be meaningless. “We feel betrayed. It’s as if we were only told to report, but no concrete action is taken,” Frenky continued, his voice rising.
At the Attorney General’s Office, the group of farmers was received by the Asset Recovery Center and Legal Case Handling (PKH) team. However, the warm welcome in the capital didn’t immediately alleviate their disappointment. “We hope the Attorney General’s Office won’t just offer empty promises, but will truly prove that the law still sides with the common people,” asserted Amin, another member of the farmers’ group.
“As shown in the image, the group of farmers is standing in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) office in Jakarta.”
Farmers Allege Collusion, Demand Transparency
The farmers strongly suspect collusion between local law enforcement officials and palm oil companies allegedly committing violations. “We don’t make accusations without basis. But the fact that our report has been ignored for months makes us suspect something isn’t right,” Frenky stated.
They demand that the Attorney General’s Office thoroughly investigate this case, not only regarding environmental violations and land grabbing, but also the alleged involvement of officials protecting the company’s interests. “We want complete transparency. The law must not be a tool to oppress the weak and protect the powerful,” Amin emphasized.
Attorney General’s Office Urged to Act Swiftly; Farmers Ready to Monitor the Case
The farmers asserted that they will not give up fighting for their rights. They are prepared to monitor this case until it is resolved and will continue to voice the injustice they have experienced.
“We came to Jakarta not to beg for mercy, but to demand justice. We hope the Attorney General’s Office will act swiftly and prove that the law still has teeth in Central Kalimantan,” Frenky concluded with a tone of hope.
Previously, Jurnal Polisi media personnel had attempted to interview the Central Kalimantan High Prosecutor’s Office regarding this case. However, they were advised to conduct the interview with the Gunungmas Regency Prosecutor’s Office. Upon arriving at the Gunungmas Regency Prosecutor’s Office, a similar situation occurred; officials declined to be interviewed, stating that they only collect data in the field and submit the results to their superiors.
Now, the public’s attention is focused on the Attorney General’s Office. Will this institution be able to address the challenge posed by the farmers from Central Kalimantan and prove that the law is not only sharp in Jakarta, but throughout the country?
