The Central Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kalteng) secured a demonstration involving students, community members, and online motorcycle taxi drivers in front of the Regional Police Headquarters on Jl. Tjilik Riwut Km.1, Palangka Raya City, Friday (August 29, 2025).
Polda Kalteng deployed personnel to manage the protest regarding demands and criticisms related to the recent death of an online motorcycle taxi driver in Jakarta.
“We have prepared anticipatory steps by deploying officers on the ground to provide security services to the demonstrators in a humane manner,” said Central Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Iwan Kurniawan through Public Relations Head Commissioner Erlan Munaji, Friday.
The Public Relations Head explained that the Police Chief along with the Deputy Chief directly participated in securing the event and engaging with the demonstrators.
“The Police Chief urges demonstrators to carry out their actions safely and orderly, so that public security is not disrupted,” Erlan added.
Commissioner Erlan emphasized that the security measures were carried out according to SOPs, prioritizing a human approach while upholding human rights and democratic values.
“Therefore, we strictly adhere to the 1945 Constitution and laws regarding freedom of speech and expression in conducting this security operation, aiming to minimize actions that could trigger public order disturbances,” he explained.
“Even though the protest involved the throwing of beverage bottles by some students, the situation remained controlled, ensuring safety and order,” he concluded.
